Camilla Sellars garden designer

About me

I consider myself a plantswoman, having been growing and propagating plants for over 20 years. As a student I always had balcony pots overflowing with edibles, and as I gradually gained more ground I began to embrace ornamental plants, and the vegetable plot also grew. Moving to a new build house with an empty (and compacted) half-acre garden as a blank canvas really fuelled my passion for horticulture, eventually leading me towards a career in gardening.

I have been working in gardens in the New Forest since 2019, including two years on a large private estate on the shores of the Solent, and latterly as a freelance gardener with a diverse client base. Gardening itself comes in various guises, and it has always been the creative possibilities that have inspired me the most. This has naturally led to me developing my skill base to include garden design, although I also love working outdoors and my secateurs are never far from my reach.

I admire the work of Piet Oudolf, Dan Pearson OBE, Jinny Blom and Nigel Dunnett, whose naturalistic approach to garden design has greatly influenced my own style.

In terms of qualifications, I hold the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Horticulture (with commendation) and a Level 3 Diploma in Professional Garden Design from the NDA.

I live in a small village near Lymington with my husband Martin and our two daughters.
